THAT’S A FRONT ENGINED V12 FERRARI.
In the car world, Ferraris powered by a front mounted mammoth V12 are as revered as Michelangelo’s ‘The Creation of Adam’. The Daytona and the 250GTO still receive respect like they did in their primetime. That is exactly what a big Ferrari does. It captures your mind, heart, soul, everything. To live up to its legendary GODFATHERS, THE 812 SUPERFAST HAS TO BE GOOD, REALLY GOOD.
The simple answer is yes. Yes, it’s wonderful. When the 6.5 litre V12 sings, everyone shuts up, as if under the spell of divine music. These Renaissance references will keep coming now and then, for the V12 is hypnotising and enchanting, like Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’. As the name suggests, underneath its bonnet lurks 800 excited, expressive Italian horses. So far it’s been the darling of most motoring journalists. Not surprised. Giving it major speed is 718Nm of TORQUE, capable of shifting tarmac itself.
The 812 SUPERFAST’s direct rival is the Lamborghini Aventador S, a car that I already admire. The 812’s game is strong too. Its simplistic, timeless design echoes the lines of the vintage, godfather Ferraris. Its quad rear lights follow the cue of the 308, an utter master class. This simplicity has also been given a good dose of modern tweaks. Ferrari’s 5 way traction control system and rear wheel steer coupled with its highly efficient, useful and super cool aerodynamics, makes the 812 extremely adjustable to varying conditions. All in all, I love the 812’s design both inside and outside, every single bit of it.
The 812’s naught to 60 time is the same as that of the Aventador S. Both have similar power outputs and torque figures often leading the common man to believe that they are the absolute same and that creativity has died in the car industry. This isn’t even remotely true, for these beasts are different. They carry on the everlasting battle between the two automotive giants, both expressing supremacy, a common quantity, in their own respective ways. As technology evolves, the basic recipe hasn’t been changed. Sometimes it’s the basic recipe and feel that attracts petrolheads, and the 812 and the Aventador S aren’t lacking in those areas.
*I DO NOT DRIVE THE CARS I TALK ABOUT, I JUST GIVE MY HONEST OPINION ☺.
